Have CORE brought the FURY?

Let’s cut straight to the chase, this is one incredible product! CORE have taken what was already regarded as one of the top pre-workouts of its time, Fury Extreme, and made it look like a sub-par product with FURY X. So much so, we’re going to give you the link to grab yourself a tub right HERE! Read on if you’re not convinced…

Ingredient Breakdown:

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is a vitamin found in various food as well as dietary supplements. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that is involved in the repair of tissue and the production of certain neurotransmitters. It is required for the functioning of several enzymes and is very important for immune system health. Vitamin C is used in supplements to assist with nutrient absorption, making sure our body can absorb all the ingredients and let them do their thing.

Dose p/serve:  250 mg of Vitamin C

Recommended dosage: 45 mg of Vitamin C per day

L-Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid that gets converted into the amino acid L-Arginine by the kidneys. Once converted into L-Arginine which then goes on to increase nitric oxide (NO) levels in the blood. Increased nitric oxide has a vasodilation effect on blood vessels, allowing them to relax and open up which results in increased blood flow. Increased blood flow then results in increased oxygen and nutrient delivery within the blood to the working muscles which can improve endurance, power and recovery.

Dose p/serve:  6,000 mg of L-Citrulline

Recommended dosage: 3,000 – 4,000 mg of L-Citrulline per serve

Creatine Monohydrate

Creatine Monohydrate is the most well-studied, researched, and, proven form of creatine. Creatine has been shown to increase the amount of creatine and creatine phosphate in the body. The more creatine we have within the body, the more we have to utilise for energy. Creatine is used in our ‘explosive’ energy system, typically used when performing short duration, high-intensity movements such as lifting weight and sprinting.

Dose p/serve: 5,000 mg of Creatine Monohydrate

Recommended dosage: 5,000 – 10,000 mg Creatine Monohydrate

HydroMax® (65% Glycerol)

HydroMax® is a glycerol powder standardized to yield 65% glycerol from each dose. Glycerol is referred to as a cell volumizer, which is actually a superficial benefit of increased water retention providing incredible pumps and fuller muscles. Glycerol, when consumed, is distributed throughout the body into various fluid compartments. When consumed with adequate fluids, glycerol will increase osmotic pressure which allows the body to retain more fluids and will lead to the expansion of various fluid compartments, a state referred to as hyperhydration. From a physiological and performance this hyperhydration, caused by glycerol, can result in greater endurance, longer time to exhaustion, reduced HR while exercising, improved aerobic and anaerobic performance and improved recovery from training.

Dose p/serve: 4,000 mg of HydroMax®

Recommended dosage: 2,000 – 5,000 mg of HydroMax® per serve

Betaine Nitrate (as NO3-T®)

Betaine Nitrate is the combination of Betaine Anhydrous, also known at Trimethylglycine (TMG), and Nitric Acid. Betaine plays a few roles in the body but is most known for providing similar benefits to Creatine. Muscular Power and Energy have been studied benefits of Betaine Anhydrous. On top of this, Betaine is known for its ability to reduce homocysteine levels dramatically, even from a single serve. High levels of homocysteine have been linked to cardiovascular and other health complications. Nitrates are the most effective way to increase nitric oxide levels, therefore, increasing vasodilation and blood flow to the working muscles. Increased blood flow results in increased oxygen and nutrient delivery within the body which can improve endurance, power and recovery. Typically speaking 1 gram of Betaine Nitrate will yield 654mg of betaine and 346mg of nitrates.

Dose p/serve: 3,000 mg of Betaine Nitrate (as NO3-T®)

Recommended dosage: 1,950 – 3,900 mg Betaine Nitrate (as NO3-T®) per day

L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that is produced in the body from another amino acid called phenylalanine. L-Tyrosine is used by the body to create some very important hormones.

Dopamine – the ‘feel good’ hormone

Adrenaline and Noradrenaline – responsible for managing our fight or flight response

Thyroid Hormones – responsible for regulating metabolism

All of these are produced and regulated by L-Tyrosine in the body. L-Tyrosine is a big player in creating a good mood, focus and mental alertness.

Dose p/serve: 2,000 mg of L-Tyrosine

Recommended dosage: 500 – 2,000 mg of L-Tyrosine per serve

Choline DL-Bitartrate

Choline DL-Bitartrate or ‘Choline Salt’ is a specific variation of the nutrient Choline. Choline stimulates the formation of Acetylcholine, a vital neurotransmitter compound involved in all key brain functions and mental sharpness. Choline will help support cognition, mental alertness and delay the onset of mental fatigue.

Dose p/serve: 2,000 mg of Choline DL-Bitartrate

Recommended dosage: 500 – 2,000 mg of Choline DL-Bitartrate per serve

Caffeine Anhydrous

Caffeine is the world’s most widely consumed psychoactive drug. Caffeine is a stimulant which means it speeds up the communication of messages between the brain and body. Caffeine is found in a variety of products such as Coffee, Tea, Soft Drinks, Energy Drinks and Energy Supplements. Caffeine hits the adenosine receptor so it can no longer fire the fatigue signal in the body.

Dose p/serve: 350 mg of Caffeine per serve.

Recommended dosage: There is no clinical dose for caffeine.

Dynamine™ 40% (as Methyliberine)

Dynamine™, technically known as methylliberine, is a trademarked purine alkaloid found in the Kucha tea leaf and produced by the ingredient manufacturer Compound Solutions. It’s a derivative of caffeine and its molecular structure is similar to TeaCrine® and with that similar structure, methylliberine may amplify feelings of energy, mood and focus by activating dopamine receptors and other key neurotransmitters, inhibiting adenosine receptors, all without elevating heart rate or blood pressure. Where Dynamine™ differs to TeaCrine® is the speed at which these effects onset, Dynamine is designed to go to work immediately, with effects being experienced after only 15 minutes. It has been designed to work perfectly with Caffeine and TeaCrine®.

Dose p/serve: 250 mg of Dynamine™ 40% (as Methyliberine)

Recommended dosage: 100 – 300 mg of Dynamine™ 40% (as Methyliberine) per serve

TeaCrine® (40% Tasteless)

TeaCrine®, brought to us by Compound Solutions, is a compound chemically similar to Caffeine but functions very differently. TeaCrine® is not actually a stimulant and has no increasing effect on heart rate or blood pressure. Unlike caffeine, you DO NOT build a tolerance to the effects of TeaCrine® so you will continue to feel it day after day. TeaCrine® smooths out the energy lift you get from caffeine so you do not experience any jitters, as well as this it extends the life so there is no crash. Caffeine alone will typically provide 2 hours of energy; when you pair TeaCrine® with caffeine you will get 4 – 6 hours of energy. Studies have shown that caffeine actually enhances the bioavailability of TeaCrine® so you get more from each dose when paired together.

Dose p/serve: 125 mg of TeaCrine® (40% Tasteless)

Recommended dosage: There is no clinical dose for TeaCrine®

The Formulation:

Let’s jump straight into it and see if CORE FURY X has hit all aspects…

Muscular Endurance – L-Citrulline & Betaine Nitrate

Muscular Power – Creatine Monohydrate & Betaine Nitrate

Muscle Pumps – L-Citrulline, HydroMax® & Betaine Nitrate

Improved Mood – Dynamine, TeaCrine & L-Tyrosine

Mental Focus – Caffeine, Dynamine, TeaCrine, Choline & L-Tyrosine

Energy – Caffeine, Dynamine & TeaCrine

We told you at the start; CORE Nutritionals took what Fury Extreme delivered, swapped in some ‘newer’ ingredients, kept some favourites and then ramped it dosing up to 11! This is one seriously impressive formula on paper.

Would we change anything? Of course we would, we can always look at a formula and suggest swapping this for that and upping that dose but at the same time, we don’t know how that might react to the actual effects of a product… more about that later.

Choline… which form do you choose? CORE have opted for the ever-popular Choline Bitartrate which can be argued as the ‘lower quality’ choline when compared to Alpha-GPC and CDP-Choline. I don’t like to use that term but Choline Bitartrate is generally less bioavailable and also requires a larger serving size to elicit its effects. In CORE’s defence, their 2,000mg dose is a WHOPPING big dose!

Where’s the Beta Alanine? No surprises that there is no beta alanine in this formula as CORE have never put beta alanine in a pre-workout formula, no really, NEVER! Reason being is they are a believer of Beta Alanine intra-workout which explains the formulation of their award-winning CORE ABC. Still, it would be nice to get some Beta Alanine tingles or some extra oxygen uptake & endurance from something like PeakO2.

Creatine… Monohydrate… Pre-workout? And again, we are not surprised by this as we know Doug Miller, Owner of CORE Nutritionals, is a big fan of creatine pre-workout. Once again, every formulation of Fury over time has used creatine. We are personally a big fan of creatine being supplemented post workout but is there any harm having another serve pre-workout… nah… but creatine monohydrate can bring a texture when mixed in water.

To finish up here; is this formula impressive, yes. Can we make suggestions to change the formula, yes. Do we know if these suggestions would make the product better, no. This is why it’s so easy to pick apart formulas on paper but you’ll never know until you mix it up yourself as to whether those suggestions would work.

Taste & Consumability:

You’ve got 3 flavours to pick with CORE FURY X and they are:

Australian Gummy Snakes

Pineapple Strawberry

Star Candy

If you add up all the active ingredients and compare it to the total serving size you will calculate FURY X containing 12% other ingredients which would be made up of flavours, sweeteners, stabilisers (no colours as that’s another CORE product trait). Given the dosages of the ingredients in this product and the 25.25g serving size, also the use of nitrates and some very nasty tasting extracts, 12% is pretty damn good.

Does it taste okay? Yeah look, it does, kinda. People complain about the taste but people complain about anything these days. Especially as a pre-workout, it tastes okay. Could it be better, absolutely! With more time invested in custom flavour profile it could be improved but does it need to be, well, that’s up to you as the consumer.

We will mention that a very common mention is the grittiness of the product when mixed up. And this is definitely a significant factor in how much people enjoy or don’t enjoy drinking FURY X. We believe that is mainly due to the massive dose of Creatine Monohydrate and potentially the HydroMax as well. We don’t think we’ve ever heard more mixed opinions on the taste and consumability of FURY X when we asked the entire team.

Actual Effects:

This is all that matters really and this is what most of you here want to know about, how does it FEEL? Just quickly, why do we take pre-workout supplements? We believe we all take pre-workout supplements for a number of reasons but they all come back to increasing our athletic performance to then being able to train at the highest possible level. Whether you are training to lose body fat, build muscle, improve athletic abilities for a sport; the ability to train at a higher level is beneficial to all goals.

So how does this stack up? FURY X is really a game-changing pre-workout! For a single, stand-alone product to be able to deliver the effects that it does is what the pre-workout market has been missing. Power, Endurance, Pumps, Focus, Energy are all covered to an impressive level in FURY X; we can see that the team at CORE have clearly taken their time, tried and tested multiple variations of this formula before coming to the conclusion, this was it.

The biggest element FURY X delivers on is the energy, which is no surprise give the formula, both physical and mental energy is unbelievable! To be completely honest, we were worried that our first use at the full 2 scoop dose was too much. It wasn’t until we hit some heavy compound movement sets at our second exercise we were able to dial in and utilise the energy coursing through our body!

With that being said, modifying the serving size from workout to workout was definitely needed. We don’t say this often but there is too much energy in a 2 scoop serving for a workout on a small muscle group. Biceps & Triceps sessions had us dialling it back to 1¼ and 1½ scoops. Shoulders had us going between 1½ to 1¾ scoops and then our big days (Chest, Back and Legs) had us loving 2 scoops. This is of course our own personal experience and will differ from person to person.

The most interesting aspect to the effects of FURY X relates back to one missing ingredient. The lack of Beta Alanine definitely changes the onset of effects with this pre-workout. Nothing to do with muscular endurance but the tingly sensation Beta Alanine is known for. The lack of this tingly feeling we are subconsciously associate with a pre-workout ‘kicking in’ can leave you sometimes wondering if you’re feeling it or not. The fun part is when you do realise it has kicked in and it’s kicked in A LOT, that surge of energy is lethal… but fun!

We are really impressed with what FURY X has brought to the table! It has really raised the bar of what amount of energy a product should provide with us questioning if we are actually training hard enough given the amount of energy we have at the end of the sessions. Although it may take some trial and error sessions to get the perfect dosing for yourself and each workout.

Stacking of FURY X can be interesting, mainly because there really is no need to stack it because it’s such a comprehensive formula. CORE did release their non-stimulant performance & pump product, PEAK X, with the full intention of it being the perfect product to stack with FURY X… and it is! Taking the 10 ingredients in FURY X and bumping that up to 15 ingredients without a single double dose or overlap, making one ridiculous pre-workout stack!

But back to the main point, do you need to stack FURY X with anything, absolutely not. Has that stopped people in the past from stacking amazingly put together formulas because they can… absolutely not!

What’s The Verdict:

We’ve already said it… a few times now! CORE have come through with the good on this product. The previous Fury Extreme was an incredible pre-workout for its time, FURY X has come to the current day with a formula that reflects exactly what other pre’s wish they looked like! If you take your workout performance seriously, you need to give FURY X a try!
