What Is It?

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine (NAC) is an essential amino acid that contains potent antioxidant properties. L-Cysteine is a key amino acid in the production of Glutathione. The N-Acetyl form enables greater absorption and allows it to cross the blood brain barrier. L-Cysteine is also known to be a powerful liver detoxer.

What Does It Do?

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine is a key amino in the production of Glutathione, which is our body’s most powerful endogenous antioxidant. It helps reduce oxidative stress, inflammation and toxicity in the body. NAC is critical for a healthy immune response and plays a critical role in detoxification, which has been shown to prevent the side effects of certain drugs, environmental toxins, pollutants, and heavy metals1

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine has also been shown to provide powerful immune support and upper respiratory tract health benefits. In addition, NAC also provides promising results in increasing fertility. With one study that showed patients with varicocele treated with surgery and NAC (600mg daily) had 22% higher pregnancy rates than the control group who didn’t receive NAC2.
NAC also possesses powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. A recent animal study result showed that NAC supplementation may stabilise blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity by lowering inflammation in fat cells3.In addition, NAC supplementation may improve heart health by reducing oxidative stress and improving NO2 (Nitric Oxide) production4.

Finally, NAC can replenish glutathione and regulate glutamate levels in the brain. With this balance between glutamate and glutathione, it is of high possibility that the balance between glutamate and glutathione may help support brain health, learning and memory5.

How Much Do I Need To Take?

The recommended dose is between 600 – 1200mg daily.

When Do I Take It?

There is no real evidence that shows when it is best recommended to take N-Acetyl L-Cysteine. We suggest taking it on an empty stomach when possible and believe there to be benefits when NAC is taken at night.

How Long Does It Take To Work?

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine will go to work 30 – 60 mins after it has been consumed.
To get the best results from NAC we recommend consistent daily consumption.
